Con The Con Man - Part 3

It's been awhile since we've done another scam. It's gotten to the point now, within an hour of us putting up a photo ad on the internet, we get between three and four email scams on a that particular horse! We also get many lottery, inheritance, etc. scams. I've been waiting and waiting to pick the right one. We actually are working on several scams right now. We did receive a counterfeit cheque for $6,500 US from a guy wanting to buy one of our sales horses. The postmark was from Greece and the bank located in Georgia (he said he was from the UK). But, he decided not to play anymore because I had 'too many demands'. So, on to the next sucker!

MR KELVIN ZULU(Esq)
ATTORNEY AT LAW
ZULU LEGAL CHAMBERS
NO 30 VICTORIA STREET
JOHANNESBURG
SOUTH AFRICA
April 30.

Dear Ms Tracy,

Compliments of the season to you.I am Mr. Kelvin Zulu(Esq),a lawyer by profession.I was opportuned to be the personal attorney to Mr FRITZ DOPKO who worked for the BP Oil Exploration Company in Southern Africa, herein after shall be referred to as my client.

On 21st of April 2000, my client, his wife and their two children were involved in a car accident. All occupants of the vehicle unfortunately lost their lives.Since then I have made several enquiries to your embassy to locate any of my client's extended relatives. This has proved unsuccessful.

I came to know about you through an enquiry I was making in the internet, and I found out that you have the same second name with my client, that is why I have decided to contact you, in order to assist in repatriating the money and property left behind by my client before they get confiscated or declared unserviceable by the bank.

Particularly, the bank where the deceased had an account valued at US$7.5 Million Dollars, has issued me a notice to provide the next of kin or have the account confisticated within the next 21 official working days.

Since I have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives for over 2 years now I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased since you have the same last name so that the proceeds of this account valued at US$7.5 Million Dollars can be paid to you and then you and me can share the money.

I have all necessary legal documents that can be used to back up any claim we may make. All I require is your honest co-operation to enable us see this business through.I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law.

Please get in touch with me by email and send to me your telephone and fax numbers to enable us discuss further about the details of this transaction.

Best regards,

MR KELVIN ZULU (ESQ)
[ attorney at law ]

Hmmm, so I have until May 30th to collect the money.

Hi Kelvin,

You've only contacted me because of the 'similarity' of the surname Dopko. It's not a similarity. We HAVE the exact same name. Period!

By you saying investment, are you saying that I am supposed to share the money with you? If I am truly an heir to Fritz Dopko, than I have every right and entitlement to the inheritance. I am sure you are being paid well by the will and inheritance documents but I'm not interested in splitting any money with you. What you're doing is your job, and you are being compensated for it. Asking to receive any more than that would be, well, criminal. I'm sure no lawyer needs that reputation on their hands.

I don't understand what more details you need from me? Please let me know what you require?

Also, could you please email me a photo of Fritz and perhaps a family photo of his family.

Thanks,
Tracy

Dear Tracy,

Thanks for your mail and its contents.I contacted you based on the same name you have with Mr. Dopko.I do not have any intention of taking the whole money. Please take it easy. You should have in mind that there is some people behind the scene who are working towards the smooth transfer of this funds out of South Africa. To proceed with the transfer application at the bank, I will need your account details to secure approval for transfer from the transfering bank i.e South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

In another development, please note that you still need my legal action here to get the money transferred to your account. Therefore, I urge you to understand the whole proceedings and agree to the sharing ratio of 50% for you and 50% for me.If this offer is ok with you, kindly send me your account details, postal address and a brief biography of your self. You are taking half of the fund, being the relative to the deceased while the remaining half, will take care of my service as a lawyer and those people who will assist us at the bank in effecting the transfer into your account without too much documentation or questioning.

On receipt of your reply, I will furnish you with more details regarding the execution of the transfer to your account.Lastly, I request you to send me your contact phone and fax numbers to enable me contact you for further discussion.

Thanking you in anticipation of your reply.

Kelvin,

I'm sorry but I am not OK with you taking 50% of the inheritance. You are completely deceiving everybody by doing that. I have a lawyer in the family and I know how much work goes into closing an estate and what is entailed and it does not come to 50%.

I also do not want the money directly deposited into my bank account as the government will surely notice it and charge be taxes on it. Instead, I would rather have the funds sent in cheques so that it makes it harder for the government to track.

Also, again, can you please forward a photo of Fritz to me.

Thanks,
Tracy

Curious to see if I can make him scramble for a photo?!?

Hello Tracy,

Thanks once again for your mail and its contents. How is your weekend?

I am concerned about your insinuation regarding the government tracing the money if transferred through an account. I want to assure you that when we comence with the transaction, we will secure an approval from the South African Reserve Bank and the funds will transferred directly by swift from the bank to your account.

We will secure all the necessary documents required to effect a direct transfer to your account. So please feel free to do this business with me.I have also secured the services of the Exchange Control Dept of the bank. After concluding with you regarding the sharing ratio, i will commence with the approval to transfer the funds.

Once again, I am offering you 50% of the principal sum just for using your account to transfer the funds. Please note that transfers through bank guarantee cheques can only be possible if you could come down to South Africa.I will send you the requested details of Mr. Fritz on your acceptance with the sharing ratio.

Thanks.
KELVIN ZULU

Hi Kelvin,

Wow, I cannot believe how much Fritz looks like my father, Ralph Dopko, aka Shmalphers. The resemblance is uncanny.

I am still not happy with you receiving 50% of the money. I would be happier if you were only taking 20%. That would give you $1.5 million dollars which seems more than adequate for the services rendered.

I am not worried about the government tracing the money. The problem is, when they find out that I have received an inheritance, I will owe taxes on the funds. That is why I would rather have the funds not put in my account in one lump sum.

Thanks,
Tracy

Dear Ms Tracy,

Thanks for the mail and the comments. Before i proceed, i will like to inform you that if not for my wisdom, the funds would have gone to the bank treasury and there wouldn't have been any trace of this money, for ever.

My sister, i have discussed this with you already that i am not a greedy person.I cannot do the transfer alone.Similarly,i also needed a foreign account to transfer it,hence i have contacted you.

I have involved the Director of the Exchange Control of the transfering Bank here in South Africa and I have given him lots of mouth watering offers to enable us transfer the funds quickly. For his assistance, he needs to be compensated very well. Please let us agree on the 50% sharing ratio and commence with the transaction.

Remember i need to make an applications at the bank with the account details that will be provided by you, all this as well as effecting changes to your name will be taking care by me. 20% as you rightly said is nothing to compare with the jobs behind the transfer of the funds to your account. Please let us go for 50% -50%.

Awaiting your response.

Hi Kelvin,

I don't know whether to believe you or not on the 50-50 offer. If you are being untruthful, I think dear Fritz and his family would roll over in their graves once they realized how dishonest you were being.

I think that $1.5 million is more than adequate, even when split between more than one person.

I spoke with my priest about having reservations as to whether a person was honest or not. He told me that there are several ways to tell, physically, whether a person is honest and being truthful. He knows that I was speaking of someone far away but did not know the details of the matter. He said that a photograph of the far away person would show the truth!

He said that if that person was to pose in front of a camera wearing a large cross around their neck and made a peace symbol with their fingers and placed it over their heart, the truth can be seen. He said that an honest person, in doing so, would have their head tilted slightly to the side and I would be able to see the honesty in their eyes. He also said it is much easier to tell this if they are also wearing the color blue and wearing a hat which prevents any excess light getting into their eyes and distorting the true expression in the eyes.

So, Kelvin, I am ready to proceed with whatever sharing ratio you want but I think I'm going to take the advice of my priest and make sure I am doing the right thing. Could you please send me a picture of yourself, dressed in blue and wearing a hat and a cross around your neck and make the sign of the peace symbol across your heart. I am sorry to ask you to do such a thing but it would ease my mind if I could see the honesty in your eyes.

I know the minute I see the photo, I will know I am doing the right thing.

Thanks,
Tracy

I'm hoping to go for a Kelvy "The Rapper" look!

Dear Ms Tracy,

Attached is my recent photograph. In view of my tight schedule,i would not be able to go to the photo studio at the moment to have your requested photograph. My daughter is getting wedded this Saturday (May 21) while my 64th birthday is scheduled for June 10th.I am pre-occupied with the preparations for these events.

The attached photograph will serve a good purpose for you to easily recognise me when i pay you a visit, for my share of the fund.

You may print the photo and give it to your pastor to pray on it.Although in the picture, i wore a blue shirt but there is no cross in my neck nor any sign of the peace symbol across my heart talkless of wearing a hat. This is why i suggest to you to print the photo for your pastor to pray on it so as to sanctify the photo and forsee whether i am a honest person or not.

Even if i go to the photo studio and do according to your request, this will not suggest that i am a saint or not. My involvement in this transaction is mainly to put my children in a better position in the society.Age is no more on my side.

Please confirm the receipt of this photo and let me know your next line of action.

Good morning Kelvin,

Thank you for the photo but unfortunately. it will not suffice. It looks like a recent newspaper clipping. Now, I'm not accusing you of lying or being dishonest but in order to ease my mind, I am going to listen to what my priest had to say. I do not know whether that is you in the photo or not - although the man in the photo looks very honest, and quite attractive I might add.

I am willing to wait for the photo I requested so that my mind can be at ease and I know that it's truly you in the photo. You do not need to go to a photo studio to get the picture done. All that is needed is a regular digital camera or disposable camera. I don't think I am asking to much from you, considering in a few weeks, I will be handing you over almost $4 million.

I hope you understand,
Tracy

Dear Ms Tracy,

Indeed, i must confess to you that i am highly disappointed in your last mail to me.If you believe that at my age,i could still be impersonate myself with somebody else, then it is very unfair to hear this comments from you.

I refer you to your pastor in my last mail this morning,to pray on the picture, just to avoid an embarassment of this nature. You cannot be pushing me around, while nothing is done from your side.

Another way of proofing my identity to you is to show you my International passport and identity documents, which shows that i am a South African Citizen born on June 10, 1941 to the Zulu royal Family.

However, before these documents could be forwarded to you, i would have seen the seriousness in you on this subject matter. Now, i am afraid of what you are doing with the one already sent to you.

Until now, i do not have your phone/fax numbers, your contact details, how you look like and your age group. Is this a fair business? Yet, you keep on asking for this or that while abandoning the business at stake.

I agreed to send to you my international passport and identity document, provided that i see any sign of seriousness in you, just to proof you wrong that you are indeed in possession of my picture already.

Kelvin,

I assume you have my contact information, etc. already as you are the one who contacted me regarding being next of kin to Fritz. On the other hand, I no nothing of you at all.

I would like to see the truth in your eyes and by providing me with a photo and posing the way my priest described would surely mean you are legitimate as there is no way you could find a photo like that unless you truly took the photo yourself! That is part of being honest.

You emailed me stating that there is an estate waiting for me for the sum of $7.5 million and then stated that you will be taking 50% of it. That is fine. I will do whatever I need to do to help you out and if it means I need to pay funds up front to get the ball rolling, I am willing to do that. But, I would like to have the photo so that I can put my mind at ease and then try and get this pushed through as quickly as possible as I am in need of a new car and a definite vacation!

Please understand,

Hi Kelvin,

I hope your daughter's wedding went well and hope the weather was nice for you. Do you still do arranged marriages over there or are women allowed to pick their own husbands? We always here about some father giving 20 goats and a boar to some guy so he'll marry his daughter. Just didn't know if that was still done.

Thanks for the photo. I'm sure it was hard to coordinate and put together but I appreciate it just the same. Unfortunately, it doesn't help me much as my priest stated that you must be making the peace sign across your heart, not just your hand across the heart. Regardless, I found it very hard to see the photo as the quality was fuzzy and I wasn't able to see your eyes very good.

I think I'm going to go against my priest's advice and get you to do something more simple. I spent part of the weekend going back and tracing my ancestry. My great Aunt has made a hobby out of recreating our family tree and I used her help. I was able to trace back to Fritz through my great great grandma, Ivy Bean Dopskyd. Her son is Fritz. I only knew her briefly as a child but the resemblance between her and Fritz is almost, well, spooky.

Anyways, seeing as I was not able to get any rest in my heart from the recent photo you sent, I need to ask you another favor. I'll make it very simple for you so it will not be a hard task. All I ask is for you to take a picture of yourself, in front of the camera, and hold up a sign that says: "Ivy Bean Dopskyd". I know in my heart that after seeing that photo, I will know what my destiny holds for me and I know my great great grandmother will tell me that this is my calling.

I'm sorry but we do not have a mobile phone. Unfortunately, we've been having trouble with our land line phone since the end of April. Our phone company is notorious for screw ups and bad service. I keep calling them and they just keep telling me we are on their list for repair. I did try calling the number you gave me, on the weekend, but was not able to get through. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what as I know it's an international call?!?

My husband went to the bank on Friday and discussed gaining access to $150,000 US of our funds. There will be no problem gaining access to it but we may need a couple of days, depending on what form you want the money in.

Please do not delay in a response as we need to notify the bank to give them enough time to get the funds in order.

Thanks,
Tracy

I will send your photo back to you so you can see that it is fake. By saying it is a newspaper clipping, I'm not saying you are not the person in the photo. You are a lawyer and I understand that you are prominent in the community and famous and it was probably easier to take a photo clipping to get this done quick than to take the time to do an actual photo.

I'm sorry but I cannot move forward with the inheritance without an actual photo.

Kelvin,

Please let me know if you can forward another photo as I need to notify the bank as to whether they need to proceed with gathering the funds together or that it is no longer necessary. I do not want to inconvenience the bank any more than I already have.

Thanks,
Tracy

May 24.

Dear Ms Tracy,

To be honest with you,i am not happy with the way things are going between us.We have neglected the major assignment and now, attention is much concentrated on photo.

I will go and do another photo and send it to you but not under pressure like today.I got other works at stake, which also need much attention.Like i told you, i am no more a young man.In addition, i am a diabetes patient.

Let me put this record straight,i am not asking you to send me US$150,000.This is what i told you last week. The Director of Exchange Control Dept of the transfering bank informed me that for the fund to be transfered to their corresponding bank in USA out of South Africa, we shall need the sum of US$150,000 to cover the telegraphic transmission fees and other charges.

The US$150,000 will be paid to the account of the bank in USA, not to me.It is after the confirmation of this money that the US$7.5 million will be wired into your nominated account in the States.

On my part, i have negotiated with an investor in the USA through the connection of a close friend here. The investor has agreed to pay you the US$150,000 on my behalf, so that you could realised that this is legitimate transaction. You only come into scene due to the name you shared with my late client.

Up till now, you have not forwarded your nominated account details. Please note that once the application is submitted, the bank will be dealing directly with you, with the believe that you are the true next of kin to the deceased. It is after the bank requested for the charges that i would now contacted the investor to pay the US$150,000 to you, which you in turn will pay to the account given by the bank in USA.

This is why i was begging you for the sharing ratio,as some bank officials are helping us in this matter. They are the one that are given me all this information, before the application is submitted at all, in your name.

I believe you could understand this transaction now. Please forward your nominated account details, so that the transfer could commence.

Regards,

Kelvin Zulu

It seems that Kelvin is getting a bit anxious as this email came in four times!

Thanks,

I forwarded the last two photos that Kelvin sent to 419eater.com to see if the photos would make their Hall Of Shame. This is the response I received back:
Oh now that's BAD!
Thanks for sending those in :)

Dear Ms Tracy,

How are you and your family? I have obeyed your command for us to move forward. This is photo you are asking for. Please confirm the receipt.

In response, please re-write your postal address correctly by putting the city or state code at the bottom of the address.

Let us hope you will forward the requested nominated account to me now.

Please let us move forward on this transfer.

Thank you and God bless.

Kelvin Zulu

Now, if he had just sent me this size of a photo (46 KB) and I was the general public, I might fall for it. But the twit sent the 'actual size' photo in it's full 8,000 KB form so, it actually looks like this...

He left cut-out around his head and not to mention the freakishly erect ticker tape coming out of his hand and the bizarre 100 lbs. he's gained in less than three days! Much better photo I must admit than the first two though.

Good morning Kelvin,

Thank you so much for the photograph. I'm sure it must have taken a lot out of your busy day to get it done. It came just at the right time too as my husband phoned from work to see if the photo had arrived yet.

Thank you so much for putting my mind at ease. It is much appreciated. I can tell by your atrociously messy desk that you are indeed a very busy man. I bet you have cheques flying off your desk left and right!

I forgot to ask you, how did your daughters wedding go on the weekend? Did you take any photos of the wedding? If so, I would be interested in seeing them. Did the cows have to be in the photos? Sorry, I don't mean your wife and other women but meant the cows given as dowry. I have no idea whether that is separate from the wedding or not.

Thanks,
Tracy

He is getting better at doing the photos but, rather than call him out on it and allow him to learn from his mistakes and maybe actually succeed at coning the next person, I've decided to move on to the next phase.

I received the following response from 419eater.com :
LOL! You should ask him why he keeps changing shape AND skin tones in each picture?
I'll certainly have all those picture up in the Hall of Shame on my next site update, which should be in the next 24 hours.

Mike.

Dear Ms Tracy,

I am just reading your mail. Please for God's sake, let us leave this idea of photo for now.Without telling me, i could see that one of your hobbies is photography.

I would expect in your next reply to see your correct postal address with city or state code as well as your nominated account details.

I have tried your phone number times without number yet i have not been opportuned to get across to you.On my own part,if you are interested to call me,you are to add : 011(your international country code) with my number + 27-731783531 to get in touch with me.

Please show some sign of seriousness in this subject matter, as those bank officials are thinking the delay is from my side.

However, if you think you are not interested in this matter anymore, please just tell me politely. This is business. If you think you will not be benefitted, there is no need to waste other people's time.

I look forward to receiving the requested information.

My regards to your husband and other member of the family.

Thank you,

Hi Kelvin,

I guess I won't get to see any photos of your cows. Oh well. I've seen cows before. After sitting in front of the computer for several minutes and staring at your photo, I could almost see my great great grandmother's head appearing, as if flowing out through the little sign you are holding. I can also see that you've gained a lot of weight over the last few days. The food at the wedding must have been good!

So now, as would have it, I am not able to dial out long distance on my phone at all. I called the phone company this morning and they said I'm on the list for repair. Right! Anyways, here is another number you can try calling me at. Any faxes that need to be sent can also be sent to this same number:

(206) 222-xxxx

The following is my bank account information:
Dumbas Investments Bank
429 Lafing Alla Way
Seattle, Washington
98101
Telephone: (206) 888-xxxx
Fax: (206) 350-xxxx

Account Number: 7515326
Sort Code: 24 52 11

Thanks,
Tracy

My family and significant other are concerned about me using my real address and phone number to lure scammers for fear that some oddly shaped man with a squished head and disappearing shoulders will hunt me down, so I've been struggling to find alternative means.

Well, after spending some time on 419eater.com and speaking with Mike, I realize now that I don't have to use the email address his original email was sent to...they sent the same email out to thousands of people - good to know for the next scam. Plus, there's lots of ways to get around the important information. I set up free voice mail and fax services through a free on-line fax/voice mail account service which gives out Seattle area code numbers. I can even program my own messages! When dialing the phone number for the bank, the following message is heard, in a rather stuck up, old school teacher voice:

"You've reached the voice mail for the Dumbas (pronounced dumbus) Investments Bank. All of our staff are currently busy or on the phone. Please leave your name and number and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you and have a nice day"

SUCKER!

The latest news about the transfer application is that the approval would only be ready by next week Tuesday June 07.I was told that one of the directors whose signature is a must on the application form is no longer coming to the office this week due to the seminar whch he is attending.

However, we are rest assured that there is no cause for alarm. The approval will be surely given to us next week.

I will keep you posted.

My regards to your family.Have a wonderful weekend in advance.

Thanks,

Hmmm, what's his strategy on that!

I have grown so bored with this. My mom thinks his strategy is that things have been dragging out and not moving quickly enough for them and he is trying to get me worried that there is a problem so that I will get insistent that things get dealt with and I can have my money. Out of boredom, I have decided to add the 'players' from our current, and next scam, into the picture.

Hi Kelvin,

We are eagerly awaiting the forms that are supposed to be arriving on Tuesday. My husband and I have been unable to wait that long though and went out and bought my husbands dream car. It's a Porsche 911 Turbo and was a whopping $110,000 US but with the money that will be coming in right away, my husband said he just couldn't live without it. He said that you would appreciate that it has 3600 cc and 6600 rpms and goes from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 192 mph. I've included some photos of our new baby.

I can't believe what a small world this truly is. While waiting for your paperwork to arrive, we've had a lady by the name of Biyanca Andas, who is ironically also from Africa, contact us. The Ivory Coast to be exact. Her late husband, Joe Andas, is the former Minister of Finance in the Ivory Coast. Since his death, Biyanca has been trying to find a way to move Joe's funds out of Africa and has asked for our assistance. I've already contacted Dr. George Richards who is the Director of Operations for the Arnage Securities and Finance Place. He has already agreed to release the funds to us and all the paperwork has now been completed - they have worked very fast to get this proceeding right away.

So, we are going to help them out while we await the forms that you are going to be sending to us. Biyanca needs help with a release fee that needs to be paid on the funds and since we have been blessed and fortunate enough to come into a wonderful inheritance ourselves, we have decided to help them out. I mean, $40,000 US just doesn't seem like a lot of money anymore when I will be getting almost $4 million right away.

I just want you to know that now, you have not only changed our lives for the better but are able to help another fellow African out in return.

Just let me know when the paperwork is ready to go.

Thanks,
Tracy

I've made the total funds we've spent come out to $150,000 US, so that when the cheque comes, we've basically spent it already and have nothing left to spare. :)

I was told that before the documents that contains the transfer information could be given to me, the bank will first inform you via phone of this transaction.I learnt that the bank has been trying to reach you through your phone number: 1-206-222-9105.

Please get in touch with me as soon as you received the phone call from the bank in South Africa, so that i could be sure of getting the documents across to you tomorrow.

Awaiting your response.

I did receive a voice mail message on my 'fake phone' in Seattle. You can listen to it HERE. It's really hard to understand but interesting listening to the man speak at the end of the phone call. Kelvin left a message on my phone, when I first started this whole thing, and this guy from the bank and Kelvin sound identical! Hmmm Poor Kelvy's long distance bill is starting to add up!!

HAHA Ya think they could have rehearsed it a little better instead of Kelvin having to get on the phone at the end, because the women screwed up. If anyone thinks they can translate the entire call, please let me know!

Yeah, the approval documents were handed over to you anyways because you screwed up the phone call buddy!

The documents are worth a laugh. Apparently my bank account at the Dumbas Investments Bank has been checked out and approved. Who knew I actually had an account there! And it looks like they still think I reside in the United States - I'm going to keep it that way. Notice the strange scribbling at the bottom of the second document. Looks like Kelvy was practicing his hand writing.

Hi Kelvin,

I have some very bad news, that also complicates matters. I have been trying to get a hold of my bank, to find out if the money has been transferred, with no luck.

Apparently, the entire bank burnt to the ground early Sunday morning. The newspapers are now reporting that it was a faulty wire within the security system.

All of my money and accounts are seized until they can get this mess sorted out. I have no idea what to do now. I know you are desperately waiting for your money and your bank is waiting to transfer it and I don't know what to do?!? Unfortunately, our new friend in Africa, Mrs. Biyanca Andas, wife to the late former Minister of Finance in Ivory Coast, has also been waiting for $40,000 US to be transferred from our bank to hers and now she is left hanging as well.

Oooh, there must be another way!
